UKGuardianship Requirements for Host Family Applicants

All applicants must be suitable to work with children. This means you must not be barred from working with children, under any regulatory sanctions, or have criminal convictions, cautions, or binding orders. If you do have any record, you must be prepared to provide details confidentially in a sealed envelope, addressed to Head Office, for review.

As part of the application process, every adult in the household aged 16 and above will need to complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if they are not already on the Update Service.

This requires presenting original identification and official documentation. To carry out these checks, UKGuardianship partners with a third-party provider, Checks Direct (https://checksdirect.co.uk/). This company processes DBS applications on our behalf in line with our Safer Recruitment policy. Any personal data collected by Checks Direct will be managed in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2016. Full details of their privacy policy are available on their website.

In addition, applicants must supply the contact details of referees who have known them personally for at least two years. UKGuardianship will approach these referees directly to obtain written references.
